Inter Cities Cup 2013

On behalf of the Inter Cities Cup Committee I would like to extend a warm welcome to John Jarvie of Royal Burgess Golfing Society and Andy Young of Haggs Castle Golf Club the Captains of the Clubs participating in the Final of the Inter Cities Cup for the 2013 playing season.
I would also like to thank John Mc Phillips the Captain of Cowglen Golf Club for allowing us to have the free courtesy of the course today at the start of such a busy season. To manage to have such a well-manicured and presented course so early in the season John is a credit to the green-keeping staff and I am sure that you will all agree with me when I ask you to pass on our sincere thanks to them all.

I would also like to thank Ron Fairholm our starter for today and Brian Davidson and Ian Printy, the other members of the committee as well for giving up their own time to make sure the organisation behind the scenes at both this and their own regional competitions run like clockwork.

Lastly and by no means least however a big vote of thanks should go to the supporters and the respective team managers, Richard Hughes of Royal Burgess Golfing Society and David McNeill and Joe Wortley of Haggs Castle GC as well of course as their able assistants Derek and Roy for getting the teams prepared for the Final today. There are certainly a few more grey hairs amongst them all and I am sure their finger nails have been bitten to the quick.

I think that the decision taken last year to have a one game FINAL for the Inter Cities Cup this season has been a great success and will help to bring the playing season to a much more fitting end.
Well guys, this is the first time in the history of the tournament that the Final of the Inter Cities Cup has been played in a winner take all game at a neutral venue and both teams should be congratulated for giving us such a superb display of golf especially so early in the season and whilst Royal Burgess Golfing Society may have won the Cup today everyone would agree when I say that the Haggs Castle Golf Club team did themselves proud.

our very own Graeme Ewart of Kingsknowe Golf Club?
Thank you both John and Graeme
In closing it has been a fantastic achievement for Royal Burgess Golfing Society on winning the Edinburgh Golf League again for the sixth year in a row and for Haggs Castle Golf Club on winning the Boundary Bell and yes whilst Royal Burgess Golfing Society may have won the Final for the FOURTH time
